This week we had the pleasure of joining students in a Art History seminar for the module, Dialogues: Global Perspectives on Art History.

Students explored South African Resistance art and the artists and community spaces that produced it.

The idea of art as a social conscience captured the public imagination. In this session, students explored Resistance art through their own art making.

Have you heard .double podcast: Proper Job Gradcast? In his latest episode Oliver speaks to Kent Drama graduates Elyse Hall, Colette McLoughlin and Jess Pattrick about how they set up Moonbeam Theatre โ€“ which is one of the University of Kentโ€™s Graduate Theatre Companies.

The School of Arts' Graduate Theatre Companies scheme offers the opportunity to graduating students to become a graduate theatre company supported and mentored by the Drama department.

They chat about what they gained from their experience at Kent and how it aided them to create Moonbeam Theatre and they bust the myth that a drama degree wonโ€™t lead to a job. โ€œWeโ€™ve gone into a sector that is using our Drama degree but what you learn during this degree works for your life not just your career.โ€

"The attack is psychological, Damien, and powerful."

When the Exorcist was released in the UK in 1974, audiences flocked to the cinema to experience the movie which had stirred religious panic in the Church around the country. Reports of people fainting during screenings, ticket queues which trailed out cinema doors and the righteous anger of local vicars all contributed to an immense social phenomenon surrounding the film.

Dr Frances Kamm was recently interviewed for KentOnline about the uproar - and enormous success - caused by Kent's screenings of the Exorcist.

What was it like the first time you watched The Exorcist?

May 4 - 8 โ—พ The Gulbenkian โ—พ Age 16+

AฮฆE return to Gulbenkian Arts Centre with their internationally renowned VR performance, WHIST.

Inspired by the work of Sigmund Freud and Japanese artist Shuji Terayama, WHIST invites you on a journey into the unconscious mind, through the dreams, fears and desires of a fictional family.

This one-hour experience merges Physical Theatre, interactive Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies with an art installation, bringing the audience into an environment that blurs the boundaries between consciousness and the unconscious, reality and fiction, the physical and the virtual.

๐Ÿ“ฃNew PhD funding available!

Massive congratulations to Dr Ruth Herbert and Professor Nicola Shaughnessy, who have secured funding for a new PhD studentship for pioneering work on women in the UK jazz scene.

Part of the University's ongoing commitment to equality and diversity, this project addresses the changing profile of UK women jazz musicians in the 21st century, barriers to progression and the relationship between artistic voice, gender and professional identity. This is a unique initiative which forms an important and practical link between academia and the music industry.

The successful applicant will have pleasure of being supervised by Ruth and Nicola, as well as by award-winning composer and gender equality advocate Issie Barratt.

If you know anybody who is passionate about jazz and inclusivity in the music industry, please do share this exciting opportunity! Full details in the page below!๐Ÿ‘‡

Untitled.

Zori Petkanska (1st year, BSc Economics) created this amazing piece in one of the Exploring Art History classes.

The task was to create an abstract painting that does not relate to reality. The colour palette was inspired by the bright colours used by the Impressionists in their landscapes.

Do you have any memories or examples of the work you created whilst studying? We'd love to see it below!
