โOn my first day, Sarah said something that stuck with me: that all of us were very brave for being here. Over the days, I understood what she meant. The young peopleโwho are the majority hereโare really very brave to leave their homes and their countries, leaving behind their families, parents, and friends to be here. Sometimes, they live with another family or have the experience of living alone for the first time. I learned to admire these young people.
The โnot-so-youngโ ones, like me and many others I met here, are also brave. We left our children, jobs, and obligations in our countries with the certainty that itโs never too late to pursue dreams and invest in ourselves. I learned to see this courage in myself and allowed myself to experience it fully.
I participated in most of the extra activities. I tried, as much as possible, to speak in Englishโalthough our native language and the many wonderful people from my country that I met here were always a comfort, almost like a warm hug. I explored other countries during my free time, and I was very happy during these eight weeks, which I will carry in my heart with affection.
I am immensely grateful to the school staff, who were always so helpful, and especially to the teacher who brilliantly challenged us to take risks without fear of making mistakesโJak. Thank you for your patience and sweetness in correcting pronunciation mistakes and the countless wrong prepositions I used.
I return home with greater respect for other cultures and a deeper understanding of how much I love and am proud of my country. I hope I managed to share this love with youโor at least made some of you aware that the capital of Brazil is not Rio de Janeiro, but Brasรญlia, a place I return to with much joy and more confidence in my English.
Thank you all ๐โ
