It’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week! 🎉

This week, we’re celebrating our apprentices and their vital role in shaping Scotland’s workforce. Here are just some of our Business & Administration Modern Apprentices and how it has helped their career development:

Callum Greig – Digital Apprentice at the NIMS 💻

“The apprenticeship has helped me develop my communication skills, whether it’s talking to my colleagues or replying to an email more professionally. It has also helped me build my confidence when talking to my colleagues face to face. Before starting my apprenticeship, I struggled with anxiety, but this has helped me improve in that area."

Carys Ferry – HR Apprentice 👩🏼‍💼

“My apprenticeship with Strathclyde has been a fantastic opportunity to adapt and develop in the workplace, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I have faced many different tasks, and by completing my modules alongside this, I have been able to evaluate my growing skill set, along with my strengths and weaknesses that I am constantly working on improving, which is benefiting me both inside and outside the workplace.”

Lucy Kennedy - Admin Assistant in the Estates Team 🔑

"After leaving school, I applied for a Modern Apprenticeship at Strathclyde. At the time, I had no clear idea of what I wanted to do in my career. Two and a half years later, I am still working at Strathclyde, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. I have learned so much in a short time, had the opportunity to progress, and genuinely enjoy my role. After completing my apprenticeship, I secured a permanent Grade 4 position within the University. This has allowed me to progress even further through the Graduate Apprenticeship degree program in Business Management at Strathclyde Business School."

Here's to the bard, our dear Rabbie Burns! Slàinte mhath! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Unveiling an original letter written by Scotland’s beloved bard, Robert Burns, in 1788, from his home in Mauchline, Ayrshire. This fascinating piece gives us a glimpse into the man behind the poetry. 📜🖋️

Discovered in 1964 during a library move, this letter might be a small piece of the puzzle, but it provides a striking portrayal of Burns’ character. We’re proud to house this gem at The University of Strathclyde!

UK University of the Year

The University of Strathclyde has become the first university to win the coveted University of the Year title twice!

We picked up the top prize at the Times Higher Education Awards 2019, beating off stiff competition from universities around the country.

Judges praised our commitment to our founding vision of being the place of useful learning, adding that the university "set itself the task of reviving Scotland's traditional industrial base with a scale of ambition that has multiplied rapidly over the past decade".

The award honours our success in creating a series of collaborative research centres that share expertise and equipment with industry and developing Scotland's first innovation district.
