Professor Tom Gillingwater – He has secured £11M+ in research funding, published 190+ papers, and supervised 40+ PhD and MSc students. A former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Anatomy (2011–2022), he also holds an MBA and is a Fellow of multiple prestigious societies. His work continues to shape the future of neuroscience and anatomy research.

Moebius syndrome is a congenital disease. It affects babies’ facial muscles, including their ability to smile or move their eyes in certain directions. The condition affects the sixth cranial nerve, which controls eye movement, and the seventh cranial nerve, which controls facial expression.The condition is very rare. An estimated 2 to 20 in 1 million babies are born with this condition.

Welcome to the National Undergraduate Neuroanatomy Competition page!

The NUNC is an annual competition open to all medical students in the UK and Ireland. It first started in 2013, and has since run annually at the University of Southampton, and now attracts over 100 every year!

The competition is designed so that medical students with interests in neuroscience, neuropsychiatry, neurosurgery or other neuro-related careers can further their knowledge, build their CV, have an enjoyable day with like-minded students and potentially win a prize!
