ICCBR24 - Best Paper Award

Huge congratulations to our team from RGU, IIT-SL and BT-France on their win at the 32nd International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning in Mexico!

They were the first to integrate episodic memory in the form of a legal case base with retrieval augmented generation to improve accuracy for LLMs.

The team consisted of Nirmalie Wiratunga, Ramitha Abeyratne, Lasal Jayawardena, Kyle Martin, Stewart Massie, Ikechukwu Nkisi-Orji, Ruvan Weerasinghe, Anne Liret and Bruno Fleisch.

EU Sparks for Climate – Citizens Hackathon Championship

Friday and Saturday this week, May 24th and 25th, there will be an online hackathon called EU Sparks for Climate - Citizen Hackathon Championship. It is being run in 22 countries. The Icelandic hackathon has permission to open it up to the entire North Atlantic which means those in Orkney can participate.

The hackathon is open to both individuals and entire teams. Anyone can pose a challenge or join a team focusing on creating a solution to that challenge.

The best solution will then continue to the finals in Brussels where three teams will win 5.000 euros, mentorship, access to angel investors, help with crowdfunding and support for scaling the solution.

The FCA presents the Emerging Technology and Data Innovation Competition

Individually or in groups of up to five members, students are tasked with developing a pitch for a product or service that utilises Artificial Intelligence, sophisticated analysis, or other emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of financial regulation.

This competition is open to all students aged 18+ across the UK.

The submission deadline is 7th June 2024.

The winners:
Five winning pitches will be selected and awarded the rare opportunity to present their pitch to an audience of senior professionals and industry leaders in the fields of AI, Financial Services and Financial Regulation at the FCA’s annual Digital Innovation for the Future of Regulation Conference (DIFOR) on the 4th and 5th of July.

Congratulations once again REGINA OFORI-BOATENG for the acceptance of her paper entitled "Enhancing Abstract Screening Classification in Evidence-Based Medicine: Incorporating Domain Knowledge into Pre-trained Models" at the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIME) conference (Core B). This is one of the top conferences in the field (which was hosted in Aberdeen in 2005!). The paper received praise and acceptance by the three reviewers! Congratulations to everyone in the supervisory team.

We're thrilled to announce a not-to-be-missed seminar at Robert Gordon University featuring two eminent speakers from New Zealand, Dr. Tony Clear and Dr. Alison Clear.

🔹 Dr. Tony Clear: A renowned editor for leading journals like ACM Inroads and ACM Transactions on Computing Education, Dr. Clear will delve into the concept of "Collective Empathy in Software Engineering." With decades of expertise, he'll explore why empathy is a pivotal competency for today’s software engineers.
