What do the deepest point in the ocean and the highest mountain peak have in common? Plastic pollution.
Globally, around half of total plastic production is used for single-use packaging; around 10-14 million tonnes of this ends up in the oceans every year.
UK-MUC members University of East Anglia (UEA) and UMT - Universiti Malaysia Terengganu are working together to build a network of academics, industry partners and policy-makers to identify and quantify the distribution of microplastics and assess the potential environmental risks.

We're thrilled to announce that #UNESCO Story Circles will feature at the UK-MUC Inaugural Student Conference hosted by the Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur this July. The conference will focus on Intercultural Perspectives on Sustainable Development and Equality in #highereducation. ๐ป๐๐ค
Story Circles is a structured yet flexible methodology for developing intercultural competencies in a variety of contexts, both formal and informal. The project contributes to the Sustainable Development Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda, covering the pillars of peace, justice and responsive institutions.
Participation in the social, economic, political and cultural life of the community is essential to enabling changes in social structures, institutions and relations - including patterns of inequalities related to income, gender, ethnicity, religion or geography that may lock people into positions of disadvantage.
It is essential for our students to develop their intercultural competencies in order to succeed in the global marketplace๐๐ฉโ๐๐จโ๐๐. With diversity being such an important part of our global community, events like these play a vital role in promoting intercultural understanding and fostering cross-cultural relationships. ๐โค
Let's show our support for this incredible initiative and its mission to promote unity and intercultural awareness.
Share with us your thoughts on the importance of intercultural competency development in today's globalized world! ๐
