The Widening Participation Unit, here at Queen’s, were proud to host the Department of Education NI Widening Participation Forum workshop yesterday on campus. It was wonderful to meet with colleagues across the Northern Ireland colleges and universities to discuss, collaborate, share and learn from each other – helping us structure the best Widening Participation support. We had the pleasure of hosting and participating, before getting the opportunity to tour guests around our amazing new One Elmwood building. We are looking forward to the next meeting!

We recently gave a big welcome to our Senior Academy 11 participants on their first visit to Queen's University! Participants met each other for the first time, learned about what to expect from the programme and from university, toured the university campus and battled it out at a university quiz to finish the day.

We look forward to welcoming our Senior Academy 11 participants back to campus in August for our Senior Academy Summer School!

We loved welcoming future Queen's stars to campus today.

Over 300 pupils spent the day on campus, trying out everything from a virtual reality sandbox to real lab experiments. They also had the opportunity to experience what it feels like to graduate.

“The Professor Fluffy programme is designed to introduce upper primary pupils to university in an educational, interactive and fun way. We aim, in particular, to inspire primary school pupils to develop their STEM skills and visualise a possible future at university." (Patricia Hampson, Widening Participation Unit Manager at WPU Queen's)

Here's to the class of 2033. We can't wait to celebrate with you at your next graduation.

SCIENCE AT QUEEN'S PARENTS' EVENING

A 'Science at Queen's' event will take place on Thursday 23 February from 6.00pm (registration) to 9.30pm in the Whitla Hall.
This event is for parents, guardians and their children in years 11, 12 and 13 who are interested in science subjects.

Register here: https://www.qub.ac.uk/campaign/mhls/Events/science-at-queens/

At this event attendees will have the opportunity to explore the range of science disciplines side by side, and hear from current students, graduates and academic staff about the reasons why they should consider doing a science-based degree.

After registration, attendees will be free to browse the various exhibitor stands in the Whitla Hall and visit the popular Student Hub (Interactive Zone) in the adjacent South Dining Hall, which will provide the opportunity to chat with current students about their experience of their course and demonstrate some of the projects they have been working on.

Representatives from a selection of companies will also be available throughout the evening to discuss their opportunities both during study and after graduation.
