Hey everyone! It's that time of year again to elect a new committee for the Nordic Society, and what better way to do it than with Fika (and an AGM)! ☕️🍪

We will be hosting our AGM on April 1st, 7pm at MacRobert MR250. This is your chance to have a say in the future of the society, and perhaps even run for a committee position! All positions are up for grabs, even the previous committee has to rerun for their position if they wish to stay 😄

As a thanks for your attendance, we will offer fika (baked goods, coffee and tea) that you can enjoy whilst the procedure is underway.

Only members are eligible to vote in the AGM and run for committee positions. So if you haven't secured your membership yet (😒) make sure to do so before April 1st!

Come along on Thursday at 7pm to 3 Mad Hatters, and take part in our Beer Pong Tournament! Think you could be the newest beer pong champion? Come and prove it to us 🤩

This time, the theme of the night will be Vikings, in true Nordic fashion.

✨️ It's time for everyone's favorite event of the year: The Formal Sittning!!

🎉 Join us for our Formal Sittning, where you get to dress up in fancy clothes, enjoy a 3 course meal, and sing your favorite songs in English or in one of the Nordic languages

✨️ Tickets are £40 for members, and £45 for non-members. This will include a 3 course meal, a welcome drink on arrival, and a shot of vodka🍹

🎉 Tickets will be on sale from Monday 24th on our ausa page (we'll let you know once they are on our page). If you are a member, you will have been sent an email with the booking form. There, you can choose what menu you would like to have. When you have filled out the form and paid for your ticket, you will be sent an email with your ticket 🎫

Time for our next event of this semester: the Nordic Society Pub Crawl on Tuesday, February 18th, at 7:30pm. We'll start from Triplekirks 📍

This semester's pub crawl theme is Family Ties, you'll be expected to dress up for this one. Depending on how many Nordic Society pub crawls you've attended, you'll need to dress up as a different family member:
0-1: baby 👶🏻
2-4: child 🧒🏼👧🏻
5-6: teenager 👱🏼
7-8: parent 🧔🏽👩🏻‍🦰
8+: grandparent 🧑🏻‍🦳👩🏼‍🦳

The price remains the same: £20 for members, and £25 for non-members. This must be paid in cash, and gets you a drink at each of the venues we'll be visiting throughout the evening. HOWEVER, it is not mandatory to pay to join the event. You can just tag along and choose to get your own drinks, or not drink at all. Everyone is welcome to join 🤍

Hej! Its time for our annual St. Lucia day concert, on December 13th at 8pm in King's Chapel 🎊

🕯 Doors open from 7:50pm / 19:50

🌟 This event is free and is open to everyone (and not limited to University of Aberdeen students, so take everyone with you), so bring along friends and family.

🕯 This year's Lucia concert performance has been put together by Nordic Society members, with the choir performing Nordic songs, as well as traditional Christmas songs.

🎄 St. Lucia's Day is a festival of lights celebrated in some of the Nordic countries. It marks the beginning of the Christmas season and honors Saint Lucia, who helped people through the cold winter months.

It's time for our annual Finnish Independence Day celebration 🇫🇮🇫🇮

We'll be meeting in MR252 on December 6th at 5pm to watch Linnanjuhlat, the traditional celebration of Finnish Independence hosted by the President 🤝

Afterwards, we'll be heading off to Bobbin for some games, starting at around 6:30pm

Hey everyone! It's time for your favorite first semester event: the informal sittning (sitsit) 🍻

The theme for this sittning is Moomin, so be sure to dress as your favorite moomin character, such as Moomintroll, Little My, or even Snufkin (be creative and have fun with it, no pressure) 👔

❤ November 26th at 7pm at the Blue Lamp (upstairs)

🤍 Ticket price will be £10 for members and £15 for non-members, and is paid at the door in cash

💛 A ticket booking form will be sent to all members via email, so please fill it out and make sure to list any allergies or dietary restrictions. If you don't have a membership, message us and we'll send you the booking form :)

💙 Tickets include pizza, some snacks, and a shot of vodka (drinking is optional)

🥳 The sittning (or sitsit) is a traditional nordic student event involving singing and drinking (drinking optional, just have fun), and having a meal. We'll be bringing plenty of songbooks so you can all sing along and have a great night!

🧇🥰🇳🇴 LETS CELEBRATE NORWAY’S CONSTITUTION DAY AND HAVE WAFFLES 🇳🇴🥰🧇

❤️ For those unaware, among Norwegians, 17th of May is a day referred to as Syttende mai, Nasjonaldagen, or Grunnlovsdagen. The Norwegians will often celebrate with big parades with everyone dressed up in their traditional clothing (bunad). ✨

❤️ We’ll make waffles for our fellow Nordic Society members! This is sadly our last event of the term…

❤️ Event starts at 11am but pop by any time at the Secret Garden (we’ll inform the last drop in time and location for those who may not know the secret garden on campus…) 🤭🤭🤭
